Maharashtra records 6,497 new cases of coronavirus on Monday

On Monday, July 13, 2020 Maharashtra recorded 6,497 new cases of coronavirus taking the total number of cases in the state to 2,60,924. At the same time, 4,182 patients were discharged on Monday and with this, the total number of cured patients now stands at 1,44,507. The total number of active patients stand at 1,05,637

193 people died due to coronavirus taking the death toll of the state to 10,482, the fatality rate is at 4.02 per cent. The total number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai are 93,894 with the death toll of 5,332.

On the other hand, Dharavi reported just six cases of coronavirus on Monday in the last 24 hours. Dharavi was once the hotspot of the virus but has managed to contain the spread to some extent and many people and organisations, including WHO has appreciated the efforts and the steps which had been taken there.

While there is some respite in the numbers, top ministers in Maharashtra government still feel that the situation is still not conducive to hold exams in the state. The State Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education Uday Samant in said, “We will continue our previous decision which was taken in the Disaster Management Committee meeting. The government never said that it will not conduct final exams. Exams will be conducted but only after the situation of coronavirus improves.”

India has crossed the 9 lakh mark with 28,498 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, more than 5 lakh people have been recovered from coronavirus.
