As per a recent update, five new positive cases of Coronavirus have been identified in Mumbai and one new case in Ahmednagar. This takes the total number of cases in Maharashtra to 110. Out of the 110 cases, 3 have passed away and 107 are active, receiving treatment at multiple hospitals across the state.
In a press conference held yesterday, CM Uddhav Thackeray stated that the condition is critical across the state and it is necessary for us to stay at home, keeping ourselves safe. However, owing to a poor response as some citizens disobeyed the rules, the government was forced to impose a curfew across the state, which was implemented from March 23, 2020.
Uber and Ola cab services were also stopped with immediate notice and Mumbai's lifeline - the local trains - were also stopped, keeping the crisis in mind. BEST services are accessible in the city but are available for essential services only. Mumbai Police officials are taking necessary measures to ensure people do not spend time on the streets without a valid and important reason.
Further, the government also sealed the state border with Goa along with all the borders with the districts in Maharashtra. This move was important to ensure that the spread of the virus is contained, as much as possible and people do not carry the virus or get infected with the same due to travelling.
