On January 1, 2021, the price of a domestic gas cylinder was INR 694 per cylinder. By March 1, 2021, the price had reached INR 819. In just two months, the price per cylinder has gone up by more than INR 125.

Meanwhile, in the month of February, LPG prices were hiked almost three times. The hike in LPG cooking gas rates comes at a time when the prices of petrol and diesel have touched all-time highs across the four metro cities.

In February, the price of domestic LPG was hiked by INR 100 in a total of three revisions. It was first increased on February 4 by INR 25, then by INR 50 on February 14 and on February 25 by INR 25.

Usually, the rates of non-subsidised LPG cylinders are reviewed on a monthly basis and any alterations are implemented on the first day of every month. Moreover, cooking gas rates vary in different parts across the country due to variation in local taxes.
