LPG cylinder price hiked for the third time in a month; Congress slams Centre

The LPG domestic gas cylinders have witnessed a hike of INR 200 in three months. In December last year, the price of the domestic cylinders rose by INR 100 each while there was no change in the prices in January.

On Thursday, February 25, the oil marketing companies again hiked the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas domestic gas cylinder by INR 25 per cylinder. This is the third increase in rates this month and is applicable across all categories, including subsidised and non-subsidised users.

Earlier, the cost of the domestic gas cylinders was increased by INR 25 on February 4 and then by INR 50 on February 15.

In Mumbai, the cylinders will now cost INR 794 as against INR 769. The new price of the LPG gas cylinders in Kolkata is now INR 820, increased from INR 795.

A 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi costs INR 794 as against INR 769.00 at which they were supplied on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in Chennai, it will cost INR 810 as against INR 785, and in Hyderabad, it will be INR 846.50 against the previous price of INR 821.50.

The government, however, gives a small subsidy to select customers. LPG prices are determined based on the international product – propane and butane.

Leading the Congress charge against the government, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said price of a domestic gas cylinder had increased by INR 200 in the last three months and petrol and diesel prices have moved towards hitting diesel century.

"The pitch of the Modi government, which is batting for billionaire friends on both ends of the economy, is full of high prices and inflation for the common people," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.
