Mumbai: COVID positivity rate dropped below 1 per cent for first time ever

According to the latest report, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Thursday, July 29, noted that the daily positivity rate in Mumbai dropped below 1 per cent for the first time in the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, the BMC stated that that 340 persons were detected with coronavirus infections out of 35,393 tested. This brings a positivity rate of 0.96 per cent.

The active cases in the city dropped to 5,492. In addition, the active containment zones (slums and chawls) dropped to five while the doubling rate improved to 1,405 days.

Meanwhile, the daily caseload of Maharashtra dropped below 7,000 for the last six days. The state added 7,242 cases on Thursday, July 29, taking the total to 62.9 lakh, of which 7.34 lakh were in Mumbai.

Though the state reported a dip in fatalities on Thursday to 190 from over 250 earlier, the daily death count in Mumbai rose to 13 from single digits in the previous days.

Moreover, the Maharashtra government on Thursday, July 29, 2021, decided to relax coronavirus restrictions across 25 districts of the state. Earlier, health minister Rajesh Tope had hinted about relaxing the curbs soon, and the decision was taken at a meeting held with the task force and health department officials, chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
