The Mumbai division of Central Railway (CR) has recorded an overwhelming response from passengers opting for AC local on the suburban network so far in 2023 from January 1 to May 23, 2023. The CR registers a total revenue of INR 32.22 crores in the last five months.
From 1.1.2023 to 24.5.2023:
Total no of passengers travelled by AC locals – 71.33 lakhs
Total earnings from AC locals – Rs.32.22 crores
In May month (1.5.2023 to 24.5.2023):
Daily average passengers travelled by AC locals – 58,880
No of passengers travelled by AC locals:
From 1.5.2022 to 24.5.2022 – 6.17 lakhs
From 1.5.2023 to 24.5.2023 – 14.13 lakhs
Growth of 228% in no. of passengers
Revenue earned through AC locals:
From 1.5.2022 to 24.5.2022 – INR 2.83 crore
From 1.5.2023 to 24.5.2023 – INR 6.66 crore

Presently, Central Railway runs 56 AC services with 4 rakes on its suburban section. Besides offering a safe and cool ride, travel by AC local has also become economical especially after slashing of fares a year ago. In addition Railways have also facilitated First class Quarterly, Half yearly and Yearly season ticket holders to travel in AC EMU by paying the difference of fare between first class quarterly, half yearly and yearly season tickets and AC quarterly, half yearly and yearly season tickets for the entire period irrespective of the days left in First Class QST, HST and YST.
