CR creates history as it records highest ticket checking revenue of INR 214.14 crores

To ensure comfortable travel and better services to all bonafide rail users, Central Railways (CR) conducts intensive ticket checking in Suburban, Mail Express, Passenger services, special trains across all its divisions to curb ticketless and irregular travel.

Despite pandemic, the highly motivated ticket checking team of Central Railway detected an all time record of 35.36 lakh cases and recovered a fine of INR 214.14 crores during the financial year 2021-22. 

Railways record revenue of INR 214.14 crore is the highest ever Revenue from ticket checking over Zonal Railways in the history of Indian Railways. The previous highest over Indian Railways was INR 207 crores in 2019-20. It also created record in terms of cases i.e 35.36 lakh cases is the highest in Indian Railways in the year 2021-2022.

Central Railway during financial year i.e April 2021 – March 2022, generated Ticket Checking revenue of INR 214.14 crore against INR 28.28 crore during April 2020- March 2021 showing an increase of 657.21%. Similarly in terms of cases, 35.36 lakh cases were detected during April 2021- March 2022 against 6.07 lakh cases during April 2020 – March 2021.

Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said “These milestones in ticket checking performance by Central Railway was achieved despite limited train services, as running of suburban, Mail/Express, Passenger services after lockdown was started in a phases manner with COVID-19 restrictions. Intensive Ticket checking ensures comfortable travel & provide better facilities for Bonafide Passengers”. 

Ticket Checking team of Central Railway put in lot of efforts in curbing ticketless menace, 6 of the ticket checking staff has shown outstanding performance by collecting revenue of over a crore during financial year 2021-2022, namely, topping the list Mohammed Sams, TTI, Mumbai Division collected a fine of INR 1.25 crore from 15840 cases, J. J. Darbe, Head Ticket Examiner, Nagpur Division INR 1.06 crore from 13,958 cases, Abhishek Sinha, TTI, INR 1.04 crore from 13,494 cases, Dharmendra Kumar, TTI, HQ, Mumbai INR 1.04 crore from 13,273 cases, K. K. Patel, TE, Bhusawal Division, INR 1.03 crore from 14,078 cases, Sunil Nainani, TTI, Mumbai Division, INR 1.02 crores from 13,797 cases.

Apart from these, there are 12 Ticket checking staff i.e 6 from Bhusawal Division, one from Nagpur, One from Mumabi Division, 4 from Head Quarter collected more than 75 lakh rupees as fine during the FY 2021-2022.

CR continued its winning streak by retaining the number one position in non-fare revenue among all the Zonal Railways. During the financial year 2021-22, the revenue on this account is INR 40.41 crores as compared to INR 20.92 crores during the financial year 2020-21, which is an increase of 93.16%.

Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune Divisions have awarded works under ‘Hybrid OBHS contracts on earning modes’ for 6 trains with an annual license fee of INR 40.5 lakhs for one year.  Under this scheme, exterior and interior advertising, infotainment, train vending of multipurpose items including disposable linen and promotional rights are allowed to licensee. This will lead to savings on OBHS and bedroll services. In addition contract for vending of non-catering items to onboard passengers on Nagpur division, app based e-wheelchair services etc are major non-fare revenue sources. A pilot project for Comprehensive On-board Passenger Services in Mahanagri Express is also in process.

CR registered its highest ever parcel revenue of INR 322.82 crores for the financial year 2021-22 which is 106.86% more than the revenue of INR 156.06 crores achieved during the financial year 2020-21. This is a remarkable achievement in view of the aftermath of the challenging the novel coronavirus.

CR also created a record of running the most number of Kisan Rail services on Indian Railways. The growth in parcel traffic is mainly driven by successful running of Kisan Rail carrying perishable traffic from the area to the far-flung markets of the country. In the financial year 2021-22, Kisan Rail has made 946 trips to various destinations transporting 3.46 lakh tonnes which is the highest on Indian Railways. Since its inception on August 7, 2020, Kisan Rail has made 1173 trips till date, transporting 4.17 lakh tonnes of agricultural produce across the country.

Lahoti said that parcel transportation by rail is the safest, quickest and the most environment-friendly option available for customers and Central Railway’s efforts in setting up of Business Development Units in all its divisions has provided easy access to businessmen, traders and dealers to transport their goods quickly. He also said Kisan Rail has proved to be a big success story which has greatly benefited farmers, small and medium entrepreneurs.

Moreover, CR made a memorable Last Over to finish this year end and recorded The BEST EVER financial year freight loading by achieving 76.16 million tonnes in 2021-22. This is 22.8 % more than the previous year’s loading of 62.02 million tonnes. March 2022 also saw the best ever month loading by achieving the loading of 7.6 million tonnes surpassing of the previous best of 7.23 million tonnes in December 2021.

Railway appeals to the passengers to travel with dignity with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and follow all norms mandated for COVID-19.
