Amid the ongoing pandemic and fear of the possible third, the Indian Railways have decided to extend the validity of imposition of fine of INR 500 on those flouting the COVID-related norms at the premises.

According to the latest report, persons not wearing face mask/cover in railway premises including trains upto April 16, 2022. This rule is already in force to contain the spread of COVID-19 and help control the coronavirus.

Moreover, it has also come to light that special teams of Central Railway ticket checking personnel detected 20,910 cases of passengers not wearing mask and realized an amount of INR 35.28 lakhs as fine for the period from April 17, 2021 to October 3, 2021.

The Central Railway appeals to the passengers to follow all norms mandated for COVID-19.

On the other hand, Central Railways had fined more than 90,000 commuters for travelling ticketless and without proper documentation.

Moreover, INR 3.8 crores were recovered as a fine from the commuters in July. In addition, an increase in the number of ticketless commuters from June was witnessed. In June, 62,000 passengers were fined, and INR 2.6 crores were recovered from them.

Amidst the pandemic, the Mumbai locals are currently commuting passengers working in essential services and citizens who are travelling for medical emergencies. Meanwhile, in the months between April and July, 304,000 passengers travelling without tickets were fined by the Central Railway and INR 15.9 crores was recovered as a fine.

Meanwhile, the Indian Railways have restarted to issue platform tickets from today, October 8. However, the administration has increased the fare price of platform tickets at major railway stations in Mumbai and MMR, amid the ongoing pandemic and festive season.
