A massive fire broke out at New Jan Kalyan Society near S. V Road in Dahisar on Sunday afternoon around 3 pm. In this accident, 19 people were injured, out of which one woman died due to burns. Also, the condition of two others is critical and all the injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
A sudden fire broke out on the seventh floor of the 23-story New Jan Kalyan Society in Shanti Nagar on Sunday afternoon. Upon learning of the fire, residents screamed and ran out of the building. However, many residents were trapped inside the building. Upon receiving information about the accident, fire brigade personnel immediately reached the spot and took up the rescue operation.
Considering the increasing intensity of the fire, the fire brigade assigned fire number 1 at 1:09 PM and fire number 2 at 3:28 PM. 7 fire engines were deployed at the spot. However, the intensity of the fire was continuously increasing. Two meter boxes in the basement of the building came into contact with the fire. The electrical system from the ground floor to the fourth floor was burnt down.
Meanwhile, 36 residents of the building were trapped in the blaze. Firefighters rescued the residents. However, 19 of them were injured. The injured were immediately admitted to the nearby Rohit, Northern Care, Pragati and Shatabdi hospitals in Kandivali for treatment. Among the two injured, one of them was admitted to Rohit Hospital, in critical condition, and the doctor declared the woman dead. Also, the condition of the patient admitted to Shatabdi Hospital is also critical. Information about the condition of the remaining patients is not yet available.

After tireless efforts, the fire brigade personnel managed to extinguish the fire at 6:10 pm. The cause of the fire is not yet clear and the fire brigade is investigating.
