In a bizarre incident, a 54-year-old man allegedly received a call from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) asking him to collect his death certificate.

Chandrashekhar Desai, a resident of Manpada in Thane, had tested positive for coronavirus in August 2020 and was subsequently cured after receiving treatment at home. During his quarantine period, Desai had received a call once to enquire about his health.

Desai, a teacher at a Ghatkopar-based school, has alleged that he got a call from a woman, who identified herself as a worker from the health department of Thane Municipality, and said that she was calling to issue a death certificate of Chandrashekhar Desai.

When the caller got to know that she was speaking to Desai, she was surprised and asked if anyone else in the family had died or been infected to COVID-19. The caller later hung up, he added.

After the call, Desai went to the COVID war room of TMC to complain about the incident. On asking upon this, a TMC official told him that as per the data received from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), he had `died' on April 22, 2021. This list had come from the Pune office. It was a technical error as his name appeared in the list of deaths.

Meanwhile, the TMC officials have said that it could be an error in the reporting system and that they are looking into the incident.

Earlier, another unusual incident took place where a 28-year-old woman, who is a resident of Thane, claimed that she was administered three doses of COVID-19 vaccine back-to-back on the same day.
