In an incident which occurred on May 10, 2020, a deer crashed into the roof of a house in Powai's Hanuman Tekdi area. As per a tweet posted by wildlife enthusiast Virat Singh (@tweetsvirat) the event happened at 1:30 am when the residents were fast asleep.

An NGO which works towards wildlife and animal welfare was called immediately to rescue the deer and the video posted by him shows that the animal was hurt. In his tweet, Virat said, "While everyone in the area was shocked and were woken up by the loud noise and commotion...no one cud imagine a deer crashing through the roof. The deer cud have possibly come tumbling down perhaps after being chased by a leopard as the slum is adjacent to IIT Powai."

Upon receiving the news, seven members from the Maharashtra's Forest Department reached the spot to rescue the animal and ensure residents' safety. The team made sure that the animal was in control first and also tried to manage the mob in the slum.

Since the deer was injured, the team first took to Sanjay Gandhi National Park's Rescue Centre for medical examination. It was said that once they find the animal to be healthy, the team will release it in the forest habitat.

"With one of its kind urban forest right in the heart of Mumbai NGO's working on rescuing urban wildlife r always busy. Hats off to these people and staff of @MahaForest ... several animals have not only been rescued safely from tough situations but also rehabilitated and released," Virat added.
