Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, has dreamed that every citizen of the country should have a house. The government of India also initiated housing schemes for it. However, many projects under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) are still pending.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopal Shetty has written a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of SRA to take a quick decision on the pending projects in his Lok Sabha constituency. Shetty is a member of parliament from North Mumbai.

Shetty has expressed displeasure over the poor condition of slums in his constituency. In his letter, the BJP MP has urged the Chief Executive of SRA to intervene and provide “pucca” or permanent house to the poor. The construction project under SRA, in North Mumbai, has been delayed.

The projects which have been delayed are as follows:

1. Shrimauli Bander Pakhadi, Housing Society

2. Poiser Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, SRA Housing Society, Indira Nagar

3. Lokmanya Tilak Housing Institute, 90 Feet Road, Po, Kandivali East

4. Siddheshwar (A) Co-operative Society, 90 Feet Road, Kandivali East

5 Western Habitat, Rajendra Nagar, Borivali East

6. Sitaram Housing Society, Borivali East

4. Borivali Avirahi, SRA Cooperative Housing Society, (Neo.) Borivali East

4. Vighnaharta Ambawadi, Dahisar East

Due to the delay in all these projects, the poor have been deprived of their permanent house and are living under inconvenience amid a pandemic. However, the government has brought flexibility in the legal process of the SRA.

Therefore, concrete steps should be taken towards providing permanent housing to slum dwellers, Shetty said while requesting for ease in buying houses under the SRA scheme at affordable rates.
