Instances of hospitalization due to dengue have increased considerably in August as opposed to July. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elaborated that over 132 people had to be hospitalized after being confirmed with dengue, in July this number stood at 28, highlighted a report by the Times of India.

It is also believed that the real numbers may be much higher than this, since not all private admissions are notified.

The majority of the cases came from F south which includes Parel, Sewri, Naigum, followed by B (Dongri, Umarkhadi) and H west (Bandra, Khar, Santacruz (W)), highlighted the report. The civic authority, however, stated that deaths weren’t reported due to the said disease.

Another mosquito-borne infection, malaria’s admission numbers were more or less stagnant since July where 787 cases were reported. This number stood at 790 in August.

According to the insecticide department, 13,15,373 homes were inspected, with 11,492 dengue breeding spots bring destroyed. BMC’s executive health officer, Dr Mangala Gomare, elaborated that Mumbai tends to log more dengue cases in August and September. She urged people to visit the doctor, if they faced any symptoms, elucidated the account.

Between January-August, 3,338 malaria cases, 133 leptospirosis, 209 dengue, 1,848 gastroenteritis, 165 hepatitis and 45 H1N1 cases have been reported, mentioned the report.
