On Friday, December 10, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that one Omicron positive case was found in Mumbai's DharaviAccording to the civic authority, the individual had returned from Tanzania and is now admitted at Seven Hills Hospital, reported news agency ANI. 

The civic authority added that the 49-year-old patient is asymptomatic and not vaccinated. Furthermore, two people who had come to receive the patient have also been traced. With this, the tally of total Omicron patients in Mumbai is now three. 

Earlier last week, the individual had tested positive for coronavirus. Thus, Mumbai Mayor, Kishori Pednekar had mentioned that his samples were sent for genome sequencing. After testing positive for COVID-19 he was admitted to the hospital.

Previously, his close contacts were also being tested and his travel history was being assessed.

On Wednesday, December 8, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope had brushed off the possibility of any lockdown after the emergence of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, stated reports. Instead, he remarked that the focus should be on the implementation of the “3T” formula. This formula includes testing, tracking, treatment apart from following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

The first case near Mumbai was reported in Kalyan-Dombivali. The 33-year-old Omicron-infected patient from Dombivli, arrived to city on November 22 from Cape Town. He was given discharge from the hospital on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. 

Moreover, a 37-year-old who travelled from South Africa on November 25 and his 36-year-old friend who had come from the USA on the same day, tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Mumbai
