Two individuals from Mumbai have tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19, with this the total tally of the said variant in Maharashtra is 10, based on the state government's update. 

According to reports, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that a 37-year-old who travelled from South Africa on November 25 and his 36-year-old friend who had come from the USA on the same day, tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19. 

Based on accounts, they had been administered the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and presently are admitted to Andheri's Seven Hills Hospital. By means of the state release, the government brought to light that five "high-risk" and 315 "low-risk" contacts of both the positive individuals have been traced. Additionally, further tracing is being undertaken.

On the other hand, field surveillance of all international travellers who have arrived in Maharashtra since November 1, is being done. By means of airport and field surveillance, 34 samples have been sent for genome sequencing. 

Through the release, it was also brought to light that as part of the airport checks since December 1, 6,263 travellers from "high-risk" countries have been tested, with 11 testing positive. Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.
