Until, Thursday, December 2, morning, 861 international passengers were tested with the RT-PCR from which three were found positive, stated the Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra, reported news agency ANI.

Samples of the three, who tested positive for coronavirus have now been sent for genome sequencing. Apart from this, a field survey of international passengers who have arrived in the state since November 1, is being undertaken.

An aggregate of 28 samples from both the airport, as well as, field surveillance has been sent for genome sequencing. Of these 28, 25 are international travellers, whilst three are their close contacts.

Additionally, in the last 24 hours on Thursday, Maharashtra reported 796 new COVID-19 cases, 952 recoveries and 24 fatalities. With this, the active cases in the state stand at 7,209.

In the aftermath of the Union asking Maharashtra to amend its travel rules, the state mentioned that only those passengers from six “ultra-risk” countries will have to undergo compulsory institutional quarantine for a week.

The ultra-risk countries namely include South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini and Zimbabwe.

On the other hand, it added that those passengers from “at-risk” countries will be required to adhere to the guidelines proclaimed by the Union.
