Maharashtra government on Wednesday, December 1, after a delay of almost three months, launched a website wherein the family of COVID-19 deceased patients can make an application for an ex-gratia of INR 50,000.

The Central government, in the first week of October, had asked all the states to offer relief from their State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). In accordance with the instructions given by the Supreme Court, states have to offer the compensation money in 30 days of the application, stated accounts.

Considering the directives, the state government has initiated a website (mahacovid19relief.in) wherein the family can make an application for the ex-gratia amount. Applicants can log in through their mobile phones.

Post this, they will be required to put in the details of the deceased members along with their Aadhar number. Additionally, there is an option of uploading the death certificate and hospital details.

Based on reports, families without a positive RT-PCR, RAT results and COVID-19 death certificate can also attain the ex-gratia amount, provided the deceased succumbed within 30 days of being clinically diagnosed with coronavirus in a hospital.

Within a week on the website, the names of approved applications will be made accessible. Some narratives claim that since the state has recorded 1.4 lakh deaths, it would need a fund of INR 700 crore to provide ex-gratia to the families.
