Maharashtra school education minister, Varsha Gaikwad, on Thursday, December 2, stated that the exam fee for state board exams 2021-22 has been waived off for those students who have lost their parents to the pandemic.

This decision is believed to have been undertaken to offer solace to the children who have been through great turmoil. Whilst considering this, Gaikwad believes that their education must continue, thus the said resolution was decided.

Taking cognizance of the fact that owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, these grade 10 and 12 students may have faced economic hardships, the mentioned notification has been issued.

On the other hand, earlier last month the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) elaborated that it would refund the fees collected from class 10 and 12 pupils for the board examinations in February-March 2021.

They were asked to do so by the Bombay High Court, with activists also questioning the board on why INR 150 crore charged from nearly 34 lakh SSC and HSC students were not returned. The amount was collected in the year when board exams across states and education boards did occur due to the pandemic

Apart from this, the date sheet for the state board exams for this academic year is anticipated to be disclosed soon, wherein the mode of the examination will also be mentioned.
