CSMT station gets global look with 5 new indicative boards

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) has been awarded Green Railway Station Certification with a ‘Gold’ rating by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). With this, CSMT has become the first railway station across Maharashtra.

The Central Railway has installed new indicative board and signage facilities at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to give an international look and feel to the iconic World Heritage Site station.

The suburban zone of CSMT has three indicative boards for platform numbers 1 to 7 and platform numbers 8 to 18 platforms have been provided with 2 indicative boards.

There are large fonts displaying the platform numbers of suburban and long-distance trains, which passengers can easily locate the platform from a considerable distance.

Apart from this, facilities like an electric charging station, escalator, baggage sanitiser machine etc. have been made available at the station for the convenience of passengers.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is one of the busiest stations from where lakhs of passengers come and go by trains every day.

With this, CSMT has become the first railway station across Maharashtra and the western division to receive Green Railway Station Certification.

Features of the CSMT railway station

  • Installed new and bigger platform number signages for better visibility at the station.
  • The station is designed to cater to the disabled and senior citizens.
  •  Five per cent of parking space allocated to electric charging points to promote electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
  •  Trees and small gardens occupy more than 15 per cent of the station space.
  •  17 occupancy sensors installed in various offices and waiting rooms.
  •   83 per cent of the wastewater generated at the station is treated and used at the station.
  •  Wi-Fi, Automatic Ticket Vending Machine, Tourism Information and Booking Center, Food Court, Pharmacy & Medical Facilities.
