The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) has been awarded Green Railway Station Certification with a ‘Gold’ rating by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
With this, CSMT has become the first railway station across Maharashtra and the western division to receive Green Railway Station Certification.
The Environment Directorate of Indian Railways with the support of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has developed the Green Railway Stations rating system.
The award was given by Gurmeet Singh Arora, National Vice President, Indian Green Building Council, to Sanjeev Mittal, General Manager, Central Railway and Shalabh Goyal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division.
CII-IGBC is working closely with Indian Railways on a number of green initiatives such as green DRM buildings, green railway schools/hospitals/training centres for workshops.
The rating system addresses national priorities such as water conservation, handling of waste, energy efficiency, reduced use of fossil fuels, lesser dependence on usage of virgin materials and health and well-being of occupants.
