Coronavirus Pandemic: Central Railway distributes 1,000 free food packets

The nCOVID-19 outbreak has affected Maharashtra the most with 212 positive cases being registered as on March 30, (1:00 pm). Amid the coronavirus pandemic, several institutions are trying to their bit and assist the authorities. In one such act of kindness, Central Railway has distributed 1,000 food packets to the needy around the railway premises of Mumbai, Nagpur, Solapur, Bhusawal, Pune.

All the divisions of Railways are functioning 24x7 with rail officials and the employees trying to help the needy amid the lockdown. The railway staff has been preparing food (Dal Khichdi) at its IRCTC offices at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), and Mumbai Central to distribute it among the stranded near the railway stations.

Meanwhile, the rail authorities are preparing more 2,000 food packets which will be distributed by the Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel. In addition, catering stall owners, Commerce Department employees, RPF employees are also making personal contributions to the food packet distribution initiative.

Corporates too have also stepped up to help the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in their fight against the outbreak.  Godrej Industries has offered to supply BMC with 4,000+ three-ply facemask and gloves. Whereas Amit Chandra Foundation has arranged for 1,000 N95 masks along with 1,000 Gamex gloves. The Sir H.N. Foundation Hospital has collaborated with BMC to set up a COVID-19 facility at Seven Hills Hospitals in Marol.

A body of real estate developers, MCHI-CREDAI, helped the BMC to revamp a capacity-building and research structure at Powai into a sanitised isolation facility with 100 beds. All the supplies the civic body receives from the corporates are being stocked up at the Andheri Sports Complex. The BMC is dispatching the necessary materials to the hospitals from there.
