Kandivali’s Shatabdi Hospital is once again in news but for bad reasons. Due to the negligence of trainee doctors, 7-year-old Aman underwent a surgery thrice for his hand which he had fractured, yet his hand remains twisted.

What's the story?

In May 2016, 7-year-old Aman Pandey fractured his hand while playing in his home. His father took him to a nearby private hospital in Borivali who suggested an operation and asked the father to pay ₹35,000. But Aman’s father, Umesh Pandey who is an auto-driver could not afford the expenses and so he shifted him to Shatabdi Hospital.

Doctors of Shatabdi Hospital conducted the first surgery but Aman’s hand remained twisted. They then went for a second surgery which went in vain as well. For the third surgery, the doctors advised Aman’s father to install a piece of bone from his wife Madhuri Pandey’s ribs into Aman’s hand. The third surgery did not do any good for Aman and his mother as well.

Now we have been told that they will conduct another surgery but they did not tell us that the duration they will take for the same. We want the doctors to treat our son and make his hand like before,” Umesh Pandey, Father

When Mumbai Live spoke to Shatabdi Hospital’s medical superintendent Dr. Pradeep Angre, he denied the allegations.

This is a wrong allegation that our doctors botched up the operation. We are studying about Aman's twisted hand and in a month’s time, we will perform the surgery which will be free of cost. Meanwhile, I have appointed a committee to look into Aman’s case, guilty will be punished,” Dr Pradeep Angre.
