Drain cleaning operations have officially begun in the Thane Municipal Corporation area from Monday, April 21. Commissioner Saurabh Rao emphasised that the work must be completed before the onset of monsoon, specifically by the end of May.
In the first phase, drain cleaning orders have been issued for five ward committee areas. The second phase is scheduled to commence on April 25.
Commissioner Rao instructed that the drain cleaning schedule must be strictly followed, and daily progress updates should be recorded. Engineers and sanitation inspectors are expected to maintain daily reports. He also stressed the immediate removal of silt from drains to prevent foul odor from spreading.

The campaign was launched with the cleaning of a drain near Kapurbawdi Police Station, in the presence of Commissioner Rao. Former senior corporator Sanjay Bhoir, former corporator Nisha Patil, Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, Deputy Commissioner Manish Joshi, and other senior officials were also present.
Following this, drain cleaning work began at Hardas Nagar and near the railway line beside Dnyansadhana College. Present during these operations were former corporators Vikas Repale, Namrata Phatak, and Namrata Bhosale, along with several municipal officers and engineers.
Thane has around 278 kilometers of drains across nine ward committee areas, both major and minor. In the first phase, work has started in Naupada-Kopri, Uthalsar, Majiwada-Manpada, Diva, and Kalwa. In the second phase, starting soon, cleaning will begin in Mumbra, Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar, Vartak Nagar, and Wagle Estate.
