The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT) department has launched a free bus service for students of Shankarrao Zhunjarrao Primary School and Aruna Asaf Ali Urdu School, providing significant relief to economically disadvantaged families in Kon village.

Hundreds of students from nearby areas attend these two municipal schools and had been spending a considerable portion of their household income on daily bus and auto-rickshaw fares. The new initiative is expected to ease this financial burden while ensuring safer and more reliable transportation for children.

According to the school administration, the free bus service was introduced after repeated representations by Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) corporator Ramiz Maniyar, who consistently highlighted the transportation difficulties faced by students from economically weaker sections before the KDMT administration.

Speaking about the initiative, Maniyar said the primary objective was to ensure that no child misses out on education because of transportation challenges. He added that the service would provide much-needed support to students and their families by making the daily commute easier and more affordable.

The school administration welcomed the decision, describing it as a student-focused initiative that is expected to improve attendance and make commuting more convenient for hundreds of children.

Shankarrao Zhunjarrao Primary School Headmaster Sagar Dhamod, teachers from Aruna Asaf Ali Urdu School, and local social worker Hamid Shaikh expressed their gratitude to Ramiz Maniyar and the KDMT administration for fulfilling a long-pending demand and introducing the free transport facility for students.
