Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde made healthy wild vegetables available to large housing complexes in Thane.

Minister Eknath Shinde gave instructions to the District Agriculture Department to help farmers cultivate high yielding crops at low cost for producing nutrient-rich wild vegetables across the state

On the occasion of World Tribal Day, Thane hosted a state-level Rann Mahotsav (Vegetable Festival) in 230 talukas across 33 districts and featured between 100 and 150 different varieties of wild vegetables rich in nutrition. The festival was inaugurated by Shinde where he directed the District Agriculture Officer to make special transport arrangements for supplying wild vegetables to the city housing complexes.

The Rann Mahotsav, which began in 2005, is held every year in Maharashtra. This year it is held from August 9 to 15 at Vartak Nagar in Thane. Guardian Minister Shinde honoured farmers and self-help groups producing vegetables. In addition, a special information booklet on how to grow vegetables was distributed to those who attended the festival.

Speaking on this occasion, Urban Development Department Minister Eknath Shinde, said, "The wild vegetables have many medicinal properties, and whether it's planting strawberries at Mulchera in Gadchiroli or selling Bardoli's Java Plum of Gadchiroli in Nagpur, we've done many such innovative experiments that have resulted in a good yield and price, and farmers have benefited greatly. We will put similar efforts to grow these wild vegetables which have great health benefits. Modern agriculture requires the help of people like Shekhar Bhadsavale, the inventor of SRT, i.e. The Saguna Rice Technique and I would love to see more people coming forward."

Shinde also added, "In order to bring the tribal community into the mainstream, the standard of living must be raised in all areas. Such innovation will be extremely beneficial to them. We are also looking at making special arrangements to sell these vegetables at weekly markets throughout the city."

Agriculture Minister Dadaji Bhuse congratulated the festival's participants. He expressed his belief that such an initiative provides an opportunity to share this natural treasure with the people.

Along with the Agriculture Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Horticulture Minister Sandipanrao Bhumre, Thane Mayor Naresh Mhaske, Thane Zilla Parishad President Pushpa Patil, Agriculture Secretary Eknath Dawale, Thane District Agriculture Officer Ankush Mane, and farmers from the district and members of self-help groups were also present during the Launch.
