In a recently taken decision, the state government has planned to develop Malad-baed Erangal Beach as a tourist destination. The project is being considered under the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) whereby Aksa beach and Marve beach around Erangal beach will also be focused as the centre of tourist attraction.
A large number of people travel to Mumbai, every year, and the city boasts of many beaches. As per discussions, if the government builds tourist centres equipped with adequate facilities on the plot under MTDC at the Erangle Beach, the department will see economic benefits, and the beach could become popular as a tourist attraction, which will bring many tourists to the waterfront. Besides this, residents living in the nearby areas will also get many new employment opportunities.
Keeping these prospects in mind, the Maharashtra government has now decided to develop this beach as a tourist destination. As per the current plan, MTDC is considering overnight camps and sand bikes as an attraction for the tourists. However, if this plan is approved, then the team will need strong infrastructure which can be planned on MTDC's plot. No decision has been taken to understand if the same will be developed under the public-private partnership. Permissions will also be sought from the cabinet regarding the same.
Maharashtra State Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray and local MLA Aslam Sheikh had visited the area a few days back. Reports state that people from areas like Virar, Vasai, Badlapur, Palghar and South Mumbai visit the famous fair at Erangal Beach, and following the development and facilities of the tourist centre, citizens will be able to share better experiences and take advantage of the same. This will also attract a large crowd during the holidays.
