Amid the coronavirus scare, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Wednesday, said that passengers from Iran and Italy arriving at Mumbai International Airport will also be screened for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.

Tope informed on Wednesday that the passengers from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia are already being screened at the airport. Now the passengers from Iran and Italy have also been added to the list based on the instructions given by the Union government.

The health department of Maharashtra further added that a total of 53,981 travellers who arrived here by 441 flights have undergone screening at the international airport for novel coronavirus since January 18, 2020.

It is said that as many as 91 travellers were admitted to isolation facilities in the state for suspected Covid-19 infection, but none of them tested positive. Out of the quarantined, eighty-eight travellers were discharged while three are under observation at hospitals in Pune and Mumbai.

Report from the state health department mentions that they have recorded arrival of 304 people in the state from the Covid-19-affected areas (apart from those who were quarantined) until now. However, the authorities allowed them to leave the airport since none of them displayed any symptoms of the infection. But the authorities followed up with the health status of as many as 225 persons for a fourteen-day period and none of them has shown any symptoms of the disease. 

Earlier, a 29-year-old woman from Vashi was placed in quarantine for suspected coronavirus after she returned from a trip through Beijing, Bangkok and a Malaysian city. Luckily, the patient was tested negative for coronavirus.
