Major Kaustubh Rane, one of the four soldiers martyred during infiltration operations, was cremated on Thursday at Hindu Crematorium near Joggers Park at Mira Road. On August 4, Major Kaustubh, along with other soldiers fought the terrorists in the Gurez sector of Jammu-Kashmir.

During the encounter, four soldiers including Rane were martyred whereas two terrorists were killed.



After Rane’s body was brought to Mumbai in a flower-laden Army truck, Minister Vinod Tawde paid his homage to the martyr. The martyr’s body was carried later to Malad’s Central Ordnance Depot and then to his residence at Sheetal Nagar where thousands of people gathered to pay their final tribute. 

Rane’s 2-year-old son lit the pyre amongst the chants of “Kaustubh Amar Rahe” from the crowd. Along with the family members, Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, State Minister Deepak Kesarkar, MLA Pratap Sarnaik, Niranjan Davkhare, District Collector Dr. Mahendra Kalyankar and army officials were present at the crematorium.
