On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, a level-1 fire broke out at Jal Kiran building on GD Somani Marg in Mumbai's Cuffe Parade area. The incident happened in the locality in Colaba at 7:18 pm and officials found that the fire was confined in the flat on the 11th floor of a building.
The residential building has a level of basement and a G+15 structure. Rescue teams were informed immediately and the fire was doused with the help of two small hose line of four motor pumps. As per the protocol, electricity of the building was switched off.
The fire led to smoke-logged condition and heat due to which some residents were stranded on upper floors. A total of 10 adults and two children were rescued by the rescue teams. Another lady was found stranded in a closed room on the 13th floor and was safely rescued too. No injuries were reported.
During the rescue operation, Officer Shailesh Manohar from the fire station is said to have sustained minor injures and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that four fire engines, three jumbo tankers and an ambulance reached the incident spot upon receiving the information.
The incident happened in the evening on June 3, 2020, after the city was hit by Cyclone Nisarga.
