A fire broke out on Thursday morning at a residential area inside a chawl at Mathuradas Mill Compound situated in Lower Parel area. The outbreak happened opposite Toit Brewery inside the Mathuradas Mill Compound on Senapati Bapat Marg in Lower Parel (West). The compound consists of mostly house offices and eateries along with some residential divisions.
According to the bystanders, the fire began at the staff quarters of Café Zoe, located inside the same compound. The origin of the fire hasn’t been ascertained but the staff quarters of the Café also caught the fire.
The unfortunate event took place at around 10:30 am on Thursday and immediately the fire department was also alerted about the blaze. All the nearby offices and establishments have been evacuated as a precaution.

The fire is allegedly started due to a short-circuit in the air-conditioning unit but there has been no confirmation about the same from the fire department. So far, no casualties have been reported in the event.
As of 11:20 am, firefighting units have contained the fire to 2-3 units inside the compound. Police authorities and an ambulance are present at the spot.
The following incident comes four months after the Kamala Mills mishap, which claimed 14 lives.
