Like all other cities, Mumbai too was gearing up for 2018. However, prior to the celebrations, the city witnessed a series of fire incidents which continued until the first week of January. 

In the very first week of January, Mumbai witnessed seven fire incidents where five people lost their lives. Towards the end of 2017, the Kamala Mills fire incident was a shattering one because it took lives of people who were planning to welcome 2018. This loss was less when four of the same family sustained 100 per cent burns in their residence at Andheri’s Marol area

 
Series of fire incidents in 2018


  • A fire broke out in Maimoon Manzil of Andheri’s Marol area on January 4, 2018, when a family of four burnt to death.
  • On the same day, a fire broke out at Prime Mall of Vile Parle. It was not a big fire and firefighters were successful in dousing the same.
  • Another such incident took place at Jia apartment on January 5, 2018. Fortunately, there was no casualty.
  • On January 5, another fire broke out at Sion’s Pratiksha Nagar’s MHADA colony. There was no casualty reported but four flats got charred in the fire. 
  • When all were busy recalling the past fire incidents, another fire incident garnered the attention. On January 6, 2017, a fire broke out at Cine Vista studio at Kanjurmarg where firefighters rescued 150 people. The moment fire broke out, a shooting of a serial was going on.
  • On the same day i.e January 6, a fire broke out at Lower Parel’s Shiv Shakti building. Luckily there was no casualty reported.
  • On January 8, a fire broke out in the civil court in the wee hours. There was no casualty reported.
