According to reports, a huge fire broke out at a pet shop in the Rambaugh locality of Kalyan township on Wednesday, January 12, killing several birds and animals kept for sale.

According to reports, a huge fire broke out at a pet shop in the Rambaugh locality of Kalyan township on Wednesday, January 12, killing several birds and animals kept for sale.

The officials of the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) said that the fire broke out around 8 am when the shop was shut. An investigation is on to ascertain the cause of fire; however, preliminary probe points at a short circuit.

Meanwhile, there was no human casualty. Though appropriate action will be taken once the report comes, said a KDMC official.

The rescue operation was initiated as soon as the fire brigade personnel reached the spot. Soon, the officials doused the flames and some of the animals were rescued, most of them were charred to death. Firefighters said about 50 birds and 70 to 80 fish may have died in the blaze. Moreover, local locals tried their best to extinguish the fire till the fire brigade arrived. 

The shop had cats, rabbits, tortoises, parrots among other pet animals and birds.

Besides, local animal lovers said most of the pet shops in the area are illegal and sell animals and birds without permission.
