Soon, Mumbaikars will not witness the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) insecticide officers carrying out mosquito fogging in municipal areas. The reason being, the BMC’s commissioner Ajoy Mehta has decided that the civic body will gradually stop the mosquito fogging considering the rise in breathing disorders in Mumbaikars. Instead, the civic body officials will use spray the medicines on the dengue breeding spots to get rid of mosquitoes, said Mehta in the BMC house.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) data, mosquito fogging is the leading cause of breathing disorders such as asthma and considering the health hazard, the BMC decided to stop the same, informed BMC commissioner.

Along with this, special efforts will be made to prevent the production of mosquitoes by fogging in some areas but action will be taken against the organisation or a person who will be responsible for stagnating water. Last year, the BMC had issued a notice to 17,800 people of which action was taken against 2,100 people and recovered ₹80 lakh.
