Cumballa Hill Hospital and Heart Institute founder passes away at 86

Founder of the controversial ‘Cumballa Hill Hospital And Heart Institute’, Dr K R Shetty passed away at the age of 86 on the night of September 26.

Dr Shetty was a cardiac surgeon and purchased the nursing home in the 70s and then converted it into a dedicated heart hospital. It was one of the city’s first dedicated private cardiac hospital.

The Cumballa Hill Hospital isn’t in the best of conditions are the doctors and supporting staff members haven’t been paid for a while and the management is reportedly in talks of a sale.

According to reports in Mumbai Mirror, JSW Group is in advanced talks to buy the hospital.

The cremation took place at Chandanwadi crematorium on Wednesday afternoon.
