Like last year, the Brihanmumbai Public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee on Wednesday demanded that the fine of INR 2,000 levied for digging holes for pavilions be waived this year too. The coordination committee said that Fadnavis had assured that the fine of INR 2,000 for potholes would be waived.

A Ganeshotsav review meeting was held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Various issues were discussed at that time. The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had issued a circular imposing a fine of INR 15,000 on Ganeshotsav mandals who dig holes on roads for Ganeshotsav pavilions. However, the coordination committee opposed this decision of the Municipal Corporation. After that, the fine amount was reduced to INR 2,000 as before.

Meanwhile, a demand was made to the Chief Minister in the meeting that the fine of INR 2,000 levied on Ganeshotsav mandals for potholes should also be waived as the state government has given the status of a state festival to Ganeshotsav. The committee was informed that the Chief Minister has responded positively to this demand and has assured that the fine for potholes will be waived.

The meeting also demanded permanent relief regarding the POP idol. Fire brigade vehicles are stationed near the Lalbaugcha Raja Mandal. A fee of one and a half lakh rupees is charged per day for this, that too should be waived. For the past 30 years, there has been a holiday on Anant Chaturdashi, and it should be resumed. Also, when taxes are applied, Ganesh Mandals are charged commercial rates based on their office setups. There should be a concession in this as well. These demands were made during the meeting, said Coordination Committee President Adv. Naresh Dahibavkar.
