The tragic death of 11-year-old Govinda, Mahesh Jadhav, during Dahi Handi practice in Dahisar has sparked outrage. Even though the Supreme Court has banned children under 14 from taking part in forming human pyramids, some Govinda teams are still ignoring the rule.

Because of this, many well-known Govinda Mandals are now appealing that no child under 14 should be included in the pyramid. They are also urging all Govinda teams to follow the safety rules and the court's orders.

Dahi Handi is celebrated with great excitement, especially in Mumbai and Thane. The human pyramid formed to break the handi is a major attraction. People of all ages from very young children to senior citizens take part in the celebration.

During the festival, there’s a lively and festive atmosphere everywhere. More than 100 Govinda teams travel to different places to break the handi, and the public cheers them on. But in the middle of all this excitement, accidents often happen, and some Govindas get hurt.

The recent death of 11-year-old Mahesh Jadhav during practice has once again raised serious concerns. The Supreme Court has clearly said that:

  • Children under 14 should not be part of the pyramid.

  • Govindas must have insurance.

  • Safety measures must be strictly followed.

However, some organisers and teams are not following these rules. As a result, such tragic incidents keep happening. Members of the well-known Jai Jawan Govinda Pathak Sandeep Dhawade and Vijay Nikam have shared suggestions on what steps should be taken to stop such accidents in the future.
