The construction of Mumbai Metro Line 4 is currently underway in the Kasarvadavali area under the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), with work being carried out by the MMRDA. As part of this project, beam installation work on both channels between Nagla Bunder Signal to the Indian Oil Pump, and from Nagla Bunder to Bhayanderpada, will take place between June 22 and July 14, 2025.
Due to this activity, Ghodbunder Road will be closed for heavy vehicles daily from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am, and light vehicles will be diverted through alternative routes. This is expected to cause significant traffic congestion during the construction period.
Ghodbunder Road is a crucial corridor for traffic entering and exiting Thane city, especially for heavy vehicles. As a result, commuters frequently face traffic jams on this route. The MMRDA has taken up the task of installing metro beams on this road segment, necessitating temporary traffic control measures at various points along the Thane–Ghodbunder Road.
The Transport Department has issued an official notification to ensure citizen safety and to facilitate smooth traffic flow. However, major congestion is anticipated over the next few weeks due to the traffic changes.
This new traffic regulation will be in effect from June 22 to July 14, 2025, between 11:00 pm and 4:00 am daily. Vehicles providing essential services, including police, fire brigade, ambulances, green corridor services, and oxygen supply vehicles, are exempt from this restriction.

Heavy vehicles heading towards Thane via Ghodbunder Road will be blocked due to beam erection work near Gaimukh Metro Station.
As an alternative route, these vehicles will take a U-turn near pillar number 85, continue along the Thane–Ghodbunder main road, turn left at pillar number 102, and proceed towards their destination via the road in front of the Indian Oil Pump.
Light vehicles will be rerouted from pillar number 85 via Sewa Marg to reach the main road in front of the Indian Oil Pump.
During beam installation in the Nagla Bunder area, all vehicles heading towards Thane will be blocked at the Nagla Bunder Signal and near Asha Wine Shop.
As an alternate route, vehicles can use the service road near DP No. 72 and 73 and Asha Wine Shop, to continue towards Lodha Splendora on the Ghodbunder–Thane main road.
The Thane Traffic Department has appealed to drivers and citizens to cooperate by adhering to the new traffic rules and using the announced alternate routes during the affected hours.
