Barvi Dam, which was built in 1972 for industrial estates in Thane district, eventually came to be used to satisfy civil thirst. In the last few years, most of the cities in Thane district including Thane, Mira Bhayander, Kalyan, Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and villages in rural areas have been supplied with water. Therefore, the eyes of the district and water supply management systems are focused on filling the Barvi dam to its full capacity. This year, Barvi dam reached the bottom. On June 27, there was only 25 percent water storage in Barvi Dam. Due to the late onset of rains, the water concerns of the district had increased. Due to the lack of rain this year, the water supply system had time to cut water for one day every fortnight.

Although the rains started from June 25, there was not enough rain in the dam area. Therefore, on July 1, there was only 31.70 percent water storage in the dam. But after that the heavy rains in the dam area increased the Barvi dam by 69 percent in one month. On July 1, there was 107.40 million cubic meters of water in the dam. On Tuesday, August 1, Barvi Dam was filled to its full capacity. Therefore, after Tuesday afternoon, water started flowing from Barvi Dam. It took two to three days for the Barvi dam to rise from 98 percent to 100 percent due to low rainfall. The water level of the river did not increase due to less rainfall. At 7.44 pm water discharge started. But as the dam is filled to its full capacity, the water woes of the district have been solved.
