In a significant move for residents, professionals, and business owners, the Maharashtra Revenue Department has announced that document adjudication can now be done at any stamp office in Mumbai and its suburbs, regardless of the area’s jurisdiction.
Earlier, people and businesses had to register documents only at the stamp office under whose area their property or business fell. This meant extra travel and delays for many citizens. That territorial restriction has now been officially removed.
With this change, documents such as property agreements, rental contracts, inheritance deeds, and other important papers can be processed at any of the six stamp offices in Mumbai. The offices included are Borivali, Kurla, Andheri, Mumbai City, and the two offices of the Chief Stamp Officer located near the Old Custom House.
