On Tuesday, July 6, the government permitted airlines to marginally increase the number of domestic flights allowed from 50 per cent to 65 per cent.

This would extend the flight options for passengers. Earlier, the government, which had allowed airlines to go up to 80 per cent of the total pre-COVID capacity of about 3,000 flights daily, had reduced it to 50 per cent from June 1, 2021.

According to reports, IndiGo NSE 1.44 had requested the government to completely waive off capacity regulation. Even though this would make travelling easier for passengers due to the availability of options, however, regulating capacity and airfares would impact the revival of the Indian domestic market. The government, however, feels regulations are required to protect weaker airlines from going completely bankrupt.

On the other hand, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in a circular released on Wednesday, July 1, 2021, mentioned that the ban on international commercial flights has been extended until July 31, 2021. As per the announcements made earlier, the ban was supposed to end on June 30, 2021. after a long gap of 15-months.

The circular was shared on DGCA's official Twitter handle, and read, "In partial modification of circular dated 26-6-2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity of the circular issued on the subject cited above regarding Scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs IST of 31st July 2021."
