Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday said that the state government will implement nightlife proposal in Pune only after experimenting in Mumbai.
Pawar, who holds the finance portfolio, said that a decision on the proposal to allow opening of shops, eateries and malls in Pune will be done only after it is experimented in Mumbai. Pawar is the Guardian Minister of Pune district as well.
I have read news reports about (the demand to allow) nightlife in Pune. The life in Mumbai is different, this city never sleeps. However, in Pune, people may have different views on it,” said Pawar.
The senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader further stated that they have important works to do than this proposal.
Earlier, Aditya Thackeray had said that the shops, malls and restaurants in Mumbai’s non-residential areas will have an option to remain open 24/7 from January 27. However, Thackeray stated that it will not be made compulsory.
Reacting to this, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Sunday said that this issue will be discussed on January 22.
The issue will come up for detailed discussion in the cabinet meeting on January 22. If the shops, restaurants and malls are kept open through the night, we will have to examine the burden on Mumbai police,” said Deshmukh.
Thackeray, in a meeting, had approved the proposal to allow shops, malls and eateries to remain open for 24 hours in Mumbai. In the meeting, BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi and Mumbai Police were also present.
However, the directives regarding the same should come from Maharashtra government after the approval of the proposal to allow shops to remain open through the night.
