The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday, September 28, issued a 'yellow' alert for Mumbai, predicting moderate rainfall and thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds.

Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) predicted that generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall and thundershowers likely towards evening and night today. Possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places in city and suburbs.

Mumbai has seen 30 mm during the last 24 hours. In fact, Mumbai has seen rains almost every day after receiving the heaviest spell of rain of September to the tune of 111 mm. Rains have been moderate thereafter, but almost every day there has been rain.

The weather department has attributed this to a cyclonic circulation is over the Konkan coast and Goa and will remain there for the next two to three days. Also, an east-west trough which is in proximity to the region will also aid these rains.

Besides, Mumbai is expected to see moderate rains even in the next coming days. This activity will continue with decent showers until October 2, ceasing thereafter. This will possibly be the last spell of rains for Mumbai, making them the parting showers of Monsoon 2023.

In terms of the monthly monsoon rainfall, Maharashtra has collectively received 221.8 mm precipitation so far this September, enjoying a 32% excess compared to its average. Within the state, Konkan-Goa (462.9 mm), Madhya Maharashtra (178.8 mm) and Vidarbha (230.8 mm) have all recorded excess rains worth 33%, 23% and 56% respectively, while Marathwada’s figures (169.3 mm) remain in the normal range.
