The construction work of a proposed flyover on CD Barfiwala Lane in Juhu has been blocked. Due to height restrictions, the previously identified route that crosses the Airport Authority of India (AAI)-owned land must be canceled in Mumbai. As a result, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appointed a consultant to investigate the feasibility of building the flyover beneath the Mumbai Metro 2B line.

The BMC is building a flyover between Juhu-Versova Link Road (JVLR) and Mayor Hall near the CD Barfiwala flyover. It will run from the end of Barfiwala Lane to Balasaheb Sawant Marg on the JVLR. The bridge is expected to relieve traffic congestion at the JVPD junction, which is a bottleneck during peak hours. It is anticipated that the travel time from Juhu Circle to the Western Express Highway (WEH) will be reduced from 45 minutes to 10 minutes.

Last year, the work order was awarded to a joint venture of RPS Infraproject Pvt Ltd and Relcon Infraproject Pvt Ltd. The route of the flyover passes over land owned by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in Andheri. As a result, the BMC agreed to pay INR 11.16 crores to AAI for land costs in January 2023. AAI officials, on the other hand, have now informed the BMC about height restrictions on airport property, which prohibit any construction above ground level. The authorities also advised the BMC to investigate the feasibility of building the flyover beneath the Metro 2B line. As a result, the BMC has hired the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to serve as its consultant. They will be compensated with INR 15 lakh in consulting fees.

The JVPD flyover is 1.65 km long with 2 + 2 lanes. It would take three years to build the flyover.

The BMC began planning for this flyover in 2016, and two consultants were later hired. Because of the Metro station's presence, the civic body rerouted the flyover to run parallel to the Metro line.

Apart from this JVLR flyover being prepared by BMC, to ease traffic, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is constructing five flyovers. To decongest Link Road Andheri West to Poonam Nagar, Mahakali caves Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road from huge traffic during peak hours MMRDA is building five flyovers adjacent to the Metro Line 6 - Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli - which is under construction.

According to an MMRDA official, work on the flyovers will begin soon, as the contractor and Project Management Consultant were appointed in the last month.

BMC completed the 0.92-kilometer-long flyover from Swami Vivekananda (SV) Road to Laxmi Nagar, Jogeshwari (E), which opened to traffic in 2015 (Hindu Hrudaya Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Flyover).

Because MMRDA is building Metro Line-6, BMC delegated responsibility for completing the remaining portion of the flyover to MMRDA.

Recently, BMC also issued a tender for the construction of the approach structure of the Carnac Bunder Bridge. The bridge was demolished last year. The approaches will take 12 months to build and will cost INR 52 crore, according to BMC bridges department officers, who also said that the process of making the girder over the railway track has already begun and that some parts of the bridge have already reached the eastern side of the flyover.
