A day after Mumbai witnessed dust storm and heavy rains, the city on Tuesday, May 14, woke up to partially cloudy skies with a slight layer of haze in the atmosphere.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted partly cloudy skies till evening across the city and its suburbs.

With this, the temperatures were expected to range from a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. However, the average maximum temperature during the day was reported to be around 34-35 degrees Celsius; whereas the minimum temperature was hovering around 29 degree Celsius.

Winds were forecasted to blow at a speed of 5.6 km/h, mainly from the northwesterly direction. The sun rose at 06:04 am and is expected to set by 07:06 pm.

Meanwhile, on Monday evening, May 13, the minimum temperature was as low as 23.2 degrees Celsius at Santacruz and 25.8 degrees Celsius at Colaba observatory.

However, the minimum temperatures are anticipated to see a slight rise tomorrow, May 15. The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for hot and humid conditions for Mumbai while a heatwave warning has been issued for Thane. Experts stated that the humidity levels are likely to increase up to 70-80 per cent.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded for the city was at 107, which falls within the 'Moderate' category.

Later, a drop in minimum temperatures is predicted by the weather agency with the mercury staying between around 27-28 degrees Celsius.

It is pertinent to note that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded the highest rainfall at S ward, which comprises Bhandup, with 78 mm pre-monsoon showers at the eastern suburbs within two hours.

Between 4-6 pm, the BMC recording stations saw 67 mm rain at T ward (Mulund), followed by L ward (Kurla) with 42mm, M West ward (Chembur) - 32mm, Vikhroli - 31mm and M East ward (Mankhurd, Deonar) - 30mm.

Meanwhile, in the western suburbs, the highest rainfall was recorded in P South ward (Goregaon) which received 41mm rain, followed by 38mm and 36mm in K – West and K East wards respectively.

Additionally, the IMD’s Santacruz observatory registered 20.2 mm rainfall, while the Colaba coastal observatory recorded trace rain until Monday evening.
