The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to increase the vehicle fitness inspection fees, and the revised rates under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules have been implemented with immediate effect.

Under the new fee structure, which applies across Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the entire country, higher rates have been fixed based on the age of the vehicle. Vehicles over 20 years old will attract the highest fees.

The increased fitness fees apply to all categories, including two-wheelers, autos/taxis, LMVs/LGVs, and heavy vehicles. Earlier, the higher fee slab applied only to vehicles older than 15 years, but now it will apply to vehicles that have completed 10 years.

Three New Age-Based Slabs

The government has created three stages:

  • 10 to 15 years

  • 15 to 20 years

  • Above 20 years

Fees increase with each age group. Previously, vehicles over 15 years had a single uniform rate. These slabs cover two-wheelers, three-wheelers, quadricycles, light motor vehicles, medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Heavy commercial vehicles will face the highest financial impact.

Sharp Fee Hikes for Older Vehicles

  • For trucks and buses over 20 years, the fitness fee has risen from INR 2,500 to INR 25,000.

  • Medium commercial vehicles in the same age group will now pay INR 20,000 instead of INR 1,800.

  • LMVs over 20 years will pay INR 15,000.

  • Three-wheelers: INR 7,000.

  • Two-wheelers: increased from INR 600 to INR 2,000.

Revised Fees for Vehicles Under 15 Years

  • Two-wheelers: INR 400

  • LMVs: INR 600

  • Medium and heavy commercial vehicles: INR 1,000

The new structure significantly increases fees based on vehicle age, with the steepest rates for vehicles older than 20 years. These changes apply to all categories, including two-wheelers, autos/cabs, LMVs, and heavy vehicles.
