The ST employees' association started an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai from Monday morning to demand house rent allowance, dearness allowance, annual pay hike and other pending demands like state government employees.

Taking cognizance of this, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who is in charge of the Transport Department, along with Industries Minister Uday Samant, listened to the demands of the ST employees.

However, as no solution has been found, it has been decided to continue the indefinite hunger strike of the ST employees. A meeting of office bearers of the labor union was held. In this meeting, the union informed that Samant was positive about dearness allowance to ST employees and some other issues.

However, no concrete decision was taken till late night, said the organisation. Therefore, the organisation clarified that the hunger strike will continue on Tuesday as well. This hunger strike is likely to affect the ST bus service across the state. If the government turns a blind eye to the demands, Maharashtra ST has warned that from September 13, ST employees will participate in the protest at every district level in the state and go on an indefinite hunger strike,  the labor union asserted.
