On Tuesday, May 25, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed the Divisional Commissioner and District Collector to immediately inspect the electrical and fire safety in the hospitals in the state.

According to sources, a meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Pawar at the ministry who reviewed the situation in the state with regards to the coronavirus, and Mucormycosis.

Meanwhile, as coronavirus cases are declining in the urban areas, COVID-19 cases are reportedly increasing every day in the rural areas. Experts state that more emphasis should be placed on institutional segregation rather than the home segregation of COVID-19 patients in order to break the chain of infection in rural areas. In view of the situation, Pawar has reportedly instructed the administration to set up COVID-19 centres in rural areas as well.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra government had earlier disallowed the option of home isolation for patients suffering from COVID-19 in 18 districts that have a high positivity rate.

In addition, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has stated that institutional quarantine is an absolute must in areas that have a high COVID-19 positivity rate. "We have decided to stop home isolation for patients of 18 districts where the positivity rate is high. The patients from these districts will have to go to a quarantine centre, won't be allowed home isolation," said Tope. Furthermore, in order to implement the same, the number of COVID-19 centres will be increased. This decision is touted to safeguard the families of the citizens who are suffering from mild symptoms of the coronavirus.
