Japanese Pod hotels have gained popularity in the country, because of the unique model and facilities the hotels offer. One such pod hotel was opened in Andheri in 2017.

Keeping the ease and space constraints in mind, it is being said that IRCTC will soon plan its first pod hotel at Mumbai Central station. Along with this, the Indian Railway officials have also planned to develop the same at two other WR stations in the city. Commenting on the same, IRCTC spokesperson, Pinakin Morawala, said that the decision was taken keeping the passenger responses in mind, and the work on the same will begin soon.

As per the plan, IRCTC will construct around 30 air-conditioned capsules in the hotel which will also boast of changing rooms, washrooms, common areas and a cafeteria, all spread over 4,000 sqft. One can avail the services on the station for no more than 12 hours. Other amenities in the hotel will include televisions, personal lockers, power sockets, USB ports, Wi-Fi and a lot more.

The authority is currently discussing the same with WR and the feasibility study is expected to start by the end of February. If successful, the plan may extend to other stations across the city.
