Maharashtra Lifts All COVID-19 Curbs

On Thursday, March 31, Jitendra Awhad, Maharashtra Housing Minister stated that in the Maharashtra cabinet meeting, all restrictions of COVID-19 were lifted unanimously. 

Awhad told the public that they could celebrate Ramadan with enthusiasm, take out processions during Gudi Padwa as well as Babasaheb's birth anniversary. Therefore, Gudi Padwa, Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Ramzan celebrations will be allowed without any restrictions.

Additionally, reports state that the Maharashtra cabinet has cleared the proposal to withdraw the Disaster Management and Epidemic Act for COVID-19 management in Maharashtra. Therefore, all curbs have been revoked.

While the minister has made this statement, a detailed notification from the government was also released the next day.

On the other hand, reports claim that there will not be any requirement for being fully vaccinated to travel in public transport as well as in public places like malls, theatres.

This decision could mean that there will no restrictions on cinema halls, restaurants, bars, sports complexes and shopping complexes.

The Chief Minister's office has reportedly mentioned that the new rules will be effective from Saturday, April 2.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray after his spine surgery in November 2021 participated in the first in-person meeting.

Moreover, the Chief Minister's Office took to Twitter to say, "All COVID restrictions in Maharashtra will be lifted, as we bring in the new year this Gudi Padwa!"

Apart from this, public health minister Rajesh Tope reportedly uttered that wearing masks is now voluntary. However, the public has been urged to use masks while they are in crowded or public areas.

Other than him, Awhad is also claimed to have said that wearing masks will not be mandatory but the cabinet has appealed to the citizens to wear them. 

Earlier, in the order given on March 2, relaxations were given to 14 districts that include Mumbai wherein several businesses were permitted to function.
