On Monday, January 10, a team of officials from the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC), at nearly 5 am went to the main market in Kalyan to take action against those vendors utilizing banned plastic bags. During this, reports state that the vegetable vendors cut off the market's electricity supply and began abusing the civic officials.

According to accounts, the KDMC assistant commissioner, Sudhir Mokal and his team went to the APMC Market area to take action against the utilization of plastic and were attacked by the vegetable vendors with onions, making them turn away.

The KDMC has reportedly registered a case against the four who supposedly attacked the team. Based on accounts, the municipal labour union has also registered its protest against the attack on the officials as well as the employees.

A report by the Hindustan Times quoted deputy commissioner, KDMC, Ramdas Kokare elaborating on how after the incident, a case has been registered at the Bazarpeth police station against the four who attacked the team while they were on duty.

Kokare was quoted further elucidating on how this is the first time that the civic authority has had to register a complaint while working against the use of plastic bags.
